NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises

(2019 - 2021)

NBCUniversal  is one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment. There are multiple other companies that operate under the NBCUniversal umbrella, and NBCUTelemundo Enterprises is one of the major ones.

Telemundo is a world-class media company and industry leader in the production and distribution of high-quality content in Spanish across multiple platforms for Hispanics in the United States and around the world.

Problem: While Telemundo gives viewers a regular website that focuses on content, news, and programming,  there  is currently no website that focuses on only corporate initiatives and interest

Goal: Design a fully responsive, mobile-first corporate website that will be used primarily by Telemundo's corporate partners and affiliates.

Setting the scope

At some point during our conversation I decided to do a quick brainstorming excercise in which we rapidly fire off any potential questions/concerns about the platform we wanted to create–

 • what could this corporate site look like?

 • What information are we to highlight, and what info are we to omit?

 • What are our competitors in the media world doing for a corporate website? Is there anything I can take from them? What do we like about them?

I wanted to create a simple, mobile first site, that highlighted corporate interests, still kept our amazing content at the forefront, simple navigation, and didnt have too much complicated functionality. Since I had to give formal presentations in board rooms full of C-level executives every step of the way, I had to make sure eveerything made sense from a CEO's point of view as well.

One of the main things that was explained to me very clearly since the beginning is that most viewers of Telemundo content will not be viewing this page.

So if not viewers, then whom would the users be?

To determine this I interviewed 4 employees in the Corporate Communications deptartment and used their responses to determine that the main user type are:

  1. Media Members

  2. Advertisers

  3. Distributors

  4. Employees

  5. Hispanic Leaders

  6. Industry Members

  7. Elected Officials

We also determined that our targeted audience is bi-lingual, mobile-first, and interested in our company's portfolio

  1. User Stories - Here are user stories that gave me an idea of how each user would interact with the site. This is vital information for figuring out where to put what on the site.

Competitive Analysis

So even though I some very loose ideas of what I want the site to look like, I’ve never actually created a site like this before. What would the home page look like? How are companies balancing the dipsplay of content info vs boring corporate talk? How can I make that borning corporate speak sound and look more appealing to users? So to better understand the look and feel of corporate websites for other large media entities, I came up with a competitive analysis of :

1. Comcast

2. Univision

3. BBC

4. Vice

5. Al Jazeera sites.

Information Architecture

After multiple presentations, design reviews, feedback gathering sessions, and strategy huddles, this is the sitemap that was finally approved and re-approved for this project. It’s very clear that this wasn’t too complex of a project, but I will say it ended up being larger than I initially anticipated.
